Many people think that you have to be a techie or a super expert at something to be able to make money from blogging. While it’s true that being an expert at a particular thing brings a very big advantage, it is okay to write about very simple things in life too. The most important thing is to choose a topic that many people are searching for.
People want ideas!
This is where I first started blogging:
When I was signing up for a site and wanted a cute girly username, I found it was time consuming thinking of a name. I had many username ideas in mind but it seems all of them were already taken. So I started to mix up different cute words. Then suddenly it occurred to me that many people in this world must also be looking for a cute username. Surely I’m not the only one? Different people have different tastes so I decided why not publish a list of ideas for those looking specifically for girly girl usernames?
So even though I’m not an expert at a particular thing, I decided to start a blog about giving cute name ideas.
I experimented with different blogging platforms – Weebly and Blogger. I signed up for a free Google Adsense account. I noticed that the traffic was increasing in my blog as time went by, which confirmed my “suspicion” that people are looking for cute username ideas everyday 🙂
The blog was generating Adsense income. I then watched YouTube videos to see how other people are earning from their blogs. Many of them said the same thing – if you want to earn money from your blog, it’s better to use WordPress and self-host it. I didn’t know what WordPress was and how it works so I Googled it, read articles and examples and slowly it was starting to make sense.
So now, the blog that you are reading is made using WordPress – and I find that very exciting! For someone like me who is not technical, to have a fully functional and flexible blog site feels great! Adsense is providing me extra income which helps because then I don’t have to fully rely on my daytime job. I recently added Chitika too as I have also read good things about it.
I am in the process of learning and growing, and I will share what I learn here to help everyone who also wants to start a blog.
