Nissan 240sx Engine

The Nissan 240sx was the iconic rear-wheel-drive sports car that brought international awareness to the modding and drifting scene. This was because of it’s incredible handling and sufficient stock power at a low cost. These cars are still owned and modded by many 25 years later and Joe Bocci happens to be one of them. But this specific 240sx S13 Hatchback is a special one, and that’s why it earned a spot on our featured list!

Joe started this project when he was 17 years old in his mom’s garage. “I quickly realized what I thought I knew was no where near what I needed to know to complete this project.” Like most of us when we start out, he had to learn by experience. But unlike most teenagers who are purely interested in appearance and bolt-on mods, Joe wanted to take it to the next level. He wanted to do an engine swap.

Joe started his research on various engines that would give his 240 a giant boost in power. “I started looking at engines. 2JZ’s, RB’s, V8’s, etc. and quickly became fascinated with the RB25.” Nissan created the RB25DET as a twin-cam turbo engine designed to push 250 horsepower with ease. The RB25 swap is a pretty popular swap with S13’s and they’re known for having a ferociously aggressive sound. But Joe, as many 240sx owners, also likes to make skids on the pavement from time to time.

After he swapped the engine, then came the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, clutch, mounts, suspensions components, etc. The list goes on and on. This 240 ain’t no joke folks! The car made 454whp and 400tq at 20 lbs of boost at the dyno. He wanted to keep it as street-able and reliable as he could while still producing a beast on the tracks. And what a beast this thing is!

This level of craftsmanship and motivation to complete something incredible is exactly why we love the car community. It’s not just the owners of the cars but the people that surround them that also makes the difference. Joe would like to thank his girlfriend Hannah for pushing him to get the car done. John for the wiring and fabrication. Tyler for helping him out every night until the car was finished and “Dave and Gaz for everything you’ve helped me with along the way!” And finally his parents for dealing with the late night roar of his engine!

and now come the amazing build list that leaves me extremely jealous…
