I Woke Up Happy: Finding Gratitude in Everyday

Today, I woke up happy.

Actually, at 5am, I woke up with a word swimming in my brain, filling my heart, on the tip of my tongue:

Gratitude.

When I woke to the sounds of my children laughing uproariously in their room, I smiled.

Gratitude.

When I gave Little a smooch as I dropped her off for school, watching her little pigtails bouncy in a playful way that only small children can make happen effortlessly, I smiled.

Gratitude.

When Big and Middle flew so fast down a wet slide that they each launched into the air and onto their rumps in a heap of giggles, I smiled.

Gratitude.

When I found myself connecting with two different law enforcement family members which brought about the opportunity to share this post I wrote about fallen police officers, I smiled.

Gratitude.

When that post was read by two of the fallen officers’ widows, something I never thought would happen, I smiled.

Gratitude.

When I had a complete shift in perspective because of one little word, I smiled.

Gratitude.
