In the previous post we went over the BOB line of dummy bags and the importance of training your mind and body. This post serves as a follow-up to the last one, this time going over a couple brands of training knives I have used and found to be highly useful.
First off, having a good knife is very important for survival and a must for every bug-out-bag. But, if you don’t know how to use it, or defend yourself against one, someone else may be scavenging your supplies off of your corpse before long.
We’ll talk about actual self-defense using these tools later on, but first – check out these great training knives you should consider adding to your collection.
The first knife is the Cold Steel Peacekeeper (pictured above dp:B0012QS986). This rubber training knife works perfectly for solo practice, training drills, disarm drills, and demonstrations. It’s features include:
- overall length: 12 1/4″
- blade length: 7″
- handle length: 5 1/4″
- material: santoprene
- weight: 3.2 ounces
This lightweight, durable training knife is an excellent choice for those who want to train with a degree of safety. The Cold Steel description for this item includes the following warning, “The Santoprene rubber blades are soft enough to prevent the likelihood of most bodily injury. They do however, have a level of firmness that might cause injury to the face or the eyes, so it is recommended that appropriate eye protection or a fencing mask is utilized at all times when using a Cold Steel® rubber training knife.”
It is available on Amazon for just $9.38, so grab one and begin honing your skills.
The second training knife is the Gen Pro folding metal training knife (pictured below).
This training knife is a little smaller, but made of metal and great for those who are not looking for a rubber training tool. Some of this knife’s features include:
- realistic folding blade
- 3.4″ drilled stainless steel blade
- blade is rounded and dulled (cannot be sharpened)
- one-hand thumb lug
- liner lock
- composite handles with textured rubber inserts
- 4.75″ long closed
- 8″ long open
As with the Cold Steel knife, it is highly recommended that you wear appropriate eye protection or a fencing mask at all times when using this tool.
