Have you ever wanted to learn how to pull off long range shots? Maybe you’re experienced with your sidearm or semi-auto rifle, but to look down the scope and consistently hit your target is an fine art that most people will never be able to do.
At Gunwerks, you have the opportunity of attending their Long Range University and be able to reach out and touch your target 1,000 yards away. This distance is usually unheard of with hunters, and more comparable to a military sniper.
However, using the right gear, a ballistic program, and one of Gunwerks’ LR-series rifles, you will find this distance merely a trigger pull away.
For the past 6 years, Gunwerks has been holding their Long Range University (LRU) in:
- Cody, Wyoming
- West Virginia
For 2013, LRU is available internationally with courses in Canada.
Mike and Aaron Davidson are the instructors, along with the Gunwerks crew. Don’t worry about bringing your own shooting gear, because all of it – including ammunition – is provided for you. With the Gunwerks Shooting System, you will be taking the knowledge you learn in the course to your hunting grounds.
You will be able to fire the Gunwerks LR-1000 (pictured below), capable of “1,000 yards out-of-the-box”.
By using the LR-1000 as well as Gunwerks’ ammunition and ballistic program, you will find LRU to be the easiest shooting school you can attend that enables you to hit targets at that distance.
The course is divided into 2 days of learning. On day 1 you will learn:
- terminal ballistics and bullet performance
- external ballistics and trajectory validation
- ballistic compensation techniques
- long range shooting equipment
- ammunition selection
- shooting fundamentals
- range shooting basics
- rifle cleaning and maintenance
On day 2 you will learn:
- range-finding, errors and equipment
- wind deflection, reducing and reading
- correcting for air density changes
- measuring and correcting for shot angle
- exploring spin drift and Coriolis
- shot placement
- advanced/field shooting
Long Range training courses start at a base price of $1,500 and are available.
Gunwerks has other shooting platforms available other than the LR-1000, including:
If you’re still unconvinced of the power and accuracy of any of these rifles, check out this YouTube video, where the hunter drops a bull elk at 1,090 yards with the first shot of his Gunwerks 7mm Ultra Mag.
