World Cycling Parking Guide

There will be some impact to on-street parking during the 2015 Road World Championships. While some parking restrictions last the entire duration of the Worlds, many occur daily to accommodate race events. Daily restrictions will go into effect the evening before training sessions or race events and will be lifted when streets reopen following the final race events on each course. On-street parking restrictions and re-openings that are specific to one or more days are included in the Navigate the Worlds: Roads Guides, with information organized by day.

Long-term on-street parking restrictions are outlined in the Road Guide: Overview. This Parking Guide includes a general overview of the common elements of parking restrictions, but is primarily focused on event parking for spectators planning to access the Worlds by car.

Spectators driving to the 2015 Road World Championships will have a variety of parking options, including satellite parking with shuttle service. This Guide includes detailed information about event parking options for spectators driving to the Worlds. For interactive mapping tools and answers to questions about how to navigate the
World Championships, please visit Navigate.Richmond2015.com.

Many of the courses for daily race events will travel along the same streets, concentrating impacts lasting the duration of the 2015 Worlds in the Fan, VCU campus, downtown, Shockoe Bottom, and Church Hill.

Changes to on-street parking restrictions will be posted at least one week in advance of the first effective date for such changes. On-street parking will be prohibited on some streets for several consecutive days during the 2015 Worlds. These long-term parking restrictions are outlined in the Roads Guide: Overview. However, most parking restrictions will be temporary to accommodate training sessions or race events. An overview of the common elements of these restrictions is included in the On-Street Parking section of this Guide, and details of the short-term on-street parking restrictions are available in the Navigate the Worlds: Roads
Guides by day.

Unchanged on-street parking restrictions, including those at handicap spaces and ramps, bus stops, fire hydrants, curb cuts, and near intersections and regulatory signs will still be enforced.

Event parking will be offered in satellite lots at City Stadium, The Diamond, and Anthem (surface lot at the corner of Broad Street and Staples Mill Road) at a rate of $10 per day, including shuttle service. Not all lots are available on all days. Satellite parking must be reserved online.

There is no cash payment option! Please see the Satellite Parking & Shuttle Service section of this guide for more details, including maps and schedules.

Event parking will also be offered on a first-come, first-served basis in public parking lots and decks (decks owned by the City, the Commonwealth, and VCU) at a rate of $10 per day. Monthly parkers will still be entitled to their spaces in these decks, and event parking availability is expected to be limited. Privately owned lots and decks may also offer event parking at variable rates.

There will be impacts on the services of many transportation providers, including local GRTC and VCU RamRide buses, Greyhound, Megabus, and Amtrak Thruways regional buses, taxicabs, and others. In some cases, this will impact availability and access to parking that serves transit locations. Detail regarding impacts on transportation service providers and parking at their facilities can be found in the Navigate the Worlds: Transit Guide, or in information available from individual transportation providers.

Parking for race personnel and VIP ticket holders will be provided to those groups in separate communications from Richmond 2015.

Significant long-term parking restrictions will be in force along Monument Avenue and Franklin Street from Boulevard to Belvidere Street, and along Broad Street, Main Street, and various cross streets downtown. Details of these long-term parking restrictions, including maps, are available in the Roads Guide: Overview.

On-street parking will not be allowed along roads included in the courses utilized for training sessions or race events on a given day. Daily parking restrictions will be in force from the evening prior to training sessions or race events on the courses, and will be lifted when streets reopen after the final session or event concludes. Parking restrictions by course are outlined in the table below. Note that this may be one or more days later. Cars parked in restricted areas are subject to ticketing and towing at the vehicle owner’s expense.

Cross streets that do not intersect the course at a designated vehicular crossing point will be closed to through traffic one block from the course. On-street parking will generally be allowed on such cross streets, and they will remain locally accessible via alleys and driveways.

Daily on-street parking restrictions are outlined in the Roads Guides, organized by day.

Public parking lots and decks owned by the City of Richmond, Commonwealth of Virginia, and VCU will remain accessible when street closures are in effect, and will offer event parking on a first-come, first-served basis at the $10 per day event rate.

Monthly parkers in public lots and decks will still have access to their leased spaces during the Worlds.

Private lots and decks will remain accessible, even when street closures are in effect.

Spectators driving to the event are encouraged to utilize the many safe and efficient satellite parking options. Because satellite lots are reserved exclusively for event parking, space in the lots will be consistently available. Also, with street closures and traffic concentrated in areas in the immediate vicinity of the race courses and event venues, access to the satellite parking lots is anticipated to be more convenient.

Satellite parking will be available at a rate of $10 per day, with free shuttles operating to and from satellite lots at regular intervals daily. NO CASH PAYMENT OPTION is available at the lots.

Daily access to satellite lots will begin at 7:00 AM, and will continue until 11:00 PM. Cars left in satellite parking lots after 11:00 PM may be subject to ticketing or towing and impound at owner’s expense.

Daily shuttle service to satellite lots will begin two hours prior to race events and will cease operating two hours after the final Awards Ceremony each day. Not every lot will be active on every day. Please see the included schedule showing lot activation and shuttle operation by day. At least one primary lot with shuttle service will be open every day of race events, and additional lots will be activated only if needed.

Satellite parking is also an excellent option for spectators wishing to park and walk or cycle to the courses or event venues. Streets recommended for bicycle travel are identified in the Navigate: Cyclist Guide.

Note that Sunday, September 20, Satellite Lot C: Anthem will be operational, with shuttle service to a location near the Team Time Trial start venue at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.

For all other dates, shuttles from all satellite lots will pick up and drop off spectators near the intersection of 2nd Street and Canal Street downtown. This location is within walking distance of the finish line and Fan Festival, and an event information kiosk will be available to direct you.

Satellite parking and shuttle service will not be offered for training days on Saturday, Spetember 19 and Thursday, September 24.
