How to fix error “Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource DNS server is not responding” in Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 when you are trying to visit or loading web page or connecting to the network but cannot connect network, cannot open webpage?
DNS is Domain Name Server which is an internet service that translates domain names into IP Addresses, then you can visit website by domain name, if no DNS, all website address will be ip (it’s pure digital number, such as 188.8.131.52).
2. DNS Error Reasons
The reason of cannot connect to the server: computer’s corrupt setting, the server error, computer virus etc.
The device or resource (DNS Server) is not responding error:
You computer may has been correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding.
1). Corrupted DNS Service.
2). Security firewall certainly blocked your PC and working as an barrier, didn’t communicating with websites.
3. Solutions to DNS Server Not Responding
How To Fix DNS Server Is Not Responding Error? There are several easy steps, you could try to resolve DNS error yourself following it.
A. Microsoft offical solution
1), go to ‘Start’ and then to open ‘Control Panel’
2), click ‘View network status and tasks’ under ‘Networking and Internet’.
3), click ‘Change adapter settings’.
4), right-click ‘Local Area Connection’, and then click ‘Properties’.
5), select ‘Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)’, and then click ‘Properties’.
6), select ‘Obtain an IPv6 address automatically’, select ‘Obtain DNS servers address automatically’, and then click ‘OK’.
7), select ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)’, and then click ‘Properties’.
8), select ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’, select ‘Obtain DNS servers address automatically’, and then click ‘OK’.
If ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’ not work, please try use another choice ‘Use the Following DNS server address’, enter ‘184.108.40.206’ to the ‘Preferred DNS address’ and ‘220.127.116.11’ to the ‘Alternative DNS address’, then click ‘OK’, restart computer or use the method 3 to update your computer DNS.
Notice: the ip address may difference, you can also use Google DNS server information: Primary – 18.104.22.168, Secondary – 22.214.171.124
B. Fix DNS error: Restart router
Unplug the power, all lights got down, wait 1 to 5 minutes, then reconnect the power, restart router, then check whether the problem is solved or not.
C. Solve DNS error: Flush DNS
1), click ‘Start’, input ‘cmd’command prompt in the ‘Search Programs and files’ box (In windows 7, you can use keyboard shortcuts ‘win + R’ to open the box)
2), at the command prompt, type the following command:
Then click ‘Enter’ key, the command prompt window will automatically execute the command.
Then type this command and click ‘Enter’ key:
netsh winsock reset
After win7 execute the command, restart computer.
If the DNS problem is still exist, use the following command on command box
3), then check your computer, whether it could open the website
Addition: When you ping default gateway (use this command ‘ipconfig/all’ to show it) by this command ‘ping 127.0.0.1’, if there is data show, it means your network is correct, otherwise, it has problem. If win7 win8 or win10 system DNS server has problem, you can forbid network card and then restart it, or go to ‘Control Panel’, click ‘Management Tools’, find ‘Service’, find ‘DHCP Client’, set it to ‘automatic’ and then set startup type, make sure its status is ‘Running’
