There are many benefits linking your phone to Gmail. If you have a smart phone, an Android for instance, you can get all your contacts, calendar, and mail in sync. You can even use Google voice and chat via Hangouts and Google plus.

How to Link Your Phone to Gmail

Android: Go to m.Google.com/mail on your phone. Then there will be a button that says download from Play Store. Click that and it’ll bring you to the app to download.

Blackberry: Go to m.Google.com. It will bring you to a screen and give instructions on how to link Gmail to your phone.

iPhone: You can find the Gmail app in the app store on your iPhone.

Nokia s60: Go to m.Google.com. It will bring you to a screen and give instructions on how to link Gmail to your phone.

Other Phones: Also go to m.Google.com.

When you download this app on your mobile phone it will give you the options to sync Gmail accounts. You can add accounts and choose what Gmail should sync to your phone. The app will ask you if you want to sync your contacts, calendar, and email. You can choose with which accounts what items you would like synced.

Contacts

Once you have downloaded the Gmail app on your phone, if you make a new contact, in one of the fields of filling out the contacts information it’ll show the Google account you are saving this under. You can choose which Google account you would like to save the contact under. This way when you login online, your contacts will be there as well. If your phone doesn’t have a sim card, and something happens to your phone, then you wont have to worry since Google saved everything for you.

Calendar

Once you have downloaded the Gmail app on your phone, you can make changes to your Google calendar on your phone. You can add appointments, delete appointments, etc Everything you do on your phone will be synced for when you see Google calendar online and vice versa. Google calendar will look a little different on every phone, but I displayed a picture below to show an example. This is an example of one day, you can also view your calendar for the week and by month.

Google Voice

When it comes to Google Voice you can only link one Google Voice account per phone number. Once you link Google Voice, you can view messages on your phone and receive texts via Google Voice.

Google Plus

Whatever Google accounts you synced to your phone that has Google Plus, you can receive Google Plus updates and chats from other Google Plus members. Android automatically downloads the Google Plus app. If you don’t have it, then just go to your mobile app store and download it.

Hangouts

Hangouts is actually pretty cool to have on your phone. You can chat on the computer and leave for a second with your phone and see the whole conversation from your computer on your phone and just continue it. The other person wouldn’t know the difference. You can change your Hangouts status on your phone and any plugins you have will work. For instance if you have a plugin on your phone to type in a different language, this will show up if you want to use it.
